The PSAT/NMSQT is taken in school in the autumn, in the same digital app and the same two-module format as the Digital SAT. Reading and Writing first, then Math, with the difficulty of the second module in each section decided by how you did in the first.
Nothing on the PSAT reaches an admissions office. What it gives you is an honest, timed reading of where your SAT score sits a year out, and for juniors a route into National Merit consideration through the Selection Index.
Because the exam adapts, a static paper practice test cannot reproduce test day. That is why students who only work from printed books are surprised by the second module.

Why the PSAT matters
No college sees this score. It still tells you more about your SAT than any book can.
Same format, same question types, same tools. Your PSAT total is the closest thing to a free SAT preview you will get.
Junior-year scores feed the Selection Index used for National Merit recognition. The qualifying mark varies by state and year.
Whatever the report shows, you still have twelve months to fix it before the SAT score counts.
PSAT format
This is the structure your practice should match, minute for minute.
27 questions · 32 minutes
Short passages: main idea, evidence, vocabulary in context, grammar and punctuation
27 questions · 32 minutes
Difficulty set by your performance in Module 1
22 questions · 35 minutes
Algebra, advanced math, problem solving, data analysis and geometry, with Desmos available
22 questions · 35 minutes
Difficulty set by your performance in Module 1
Two hours and fourteen minutes of testing in total, with a break between the two sections.
The real problem
The test adapts to you. Printed practice cannot, so it trains the wrong instincts.
You never rehearse the moment the second module gets harder.
Every simulation runs the two-module structure with difficulty that responds to your answers.
More questions, the same mistakes, no measurable change.
Section scores broken into accuracy, pacing and mastery, with the next set already chosen.
You know it was wrong. You still do not know why.
The AI names the concept behind the mistake and hands you the practice that closes it.
How ExamScore AI works
You only learn your real strengths and weaknesses by testing yourself in an exam setting. ExamScore starts there, then turns every result into a focused path.
Start with a complete, timed adaptive simulation. No warm-up, no guessing where you stand.
Your two section scores, the module you reached and the accuracy and pacing driving both.
Reading and Writing or Math, drilled on its own until the score stops leaking.
Targeted sets built around the exact skills you keep missing, not a textbook order.
Take another full-length test and see what moved, and by how much.

PSAT Reading and Writing · Question 9 of 27
18:42Which choice most logically completes the text? The researchers expected the samples to differ, but the results were nearly identical, ______ their original hypothesis.
The hypothesis predicted a difference. Identical results contradict that prediction, so the sentence needs a word meaning weakened: undermining.
Inside the platform
Every part of the platform exists to answer one question: what should you do next?
Every answer feeds accuracy, pacing and mastery for the skill it tested, so weak spots surface on their own.
Your next set is chosen from the skills losing you the most points right now.
Per-question time budgets, because Module 1 accuracy decides the ceiling of Module 2.
Complete, timed adaptive tests with a section-by-section report at the end.

AI tutor
Not a key. The concept behind the mistake, and the practice set that closes it.
After your answer
Why is B correct here?
The sentence sets up a contrast: an expectation, then a result that goes against it. Only 'undermining' carries that contradiction.
Scoring
Know what the number means, and how the adaptive modules shape it.
Reading and Writing and Math are each reported from 160 to 760. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so never leave a question blank.
The two section scores added together, from 320 to 1520. It is the SAT scale, shifted slightly down.
Strong accuracy in Module 1 unlocks a harder Module 2 and a higher score ceiling, so early questions carry more weight than their count suggests.
Junior-year scores produce a Selection Index from the section scores. The qualifying mark is set by state and changes year to year.
Study plan
Not a schedule. The habits that separate a small gain from a real one.
One test under real conditions tells you which section is actually holding the total back. Guessing wastes weeks.
Early accuracy decides the difficulty, and the score range, of the module that follows. Slow down at the start.
Learn the modules, the timer, flagging and the built-in calculator before the day, not on it.
The content is shared, so Digital SAT practice is the most efficient PSAT preparation there is.
